Originally, Newsham South Signal Box controlled the Blyth and Tyne line between Seghill and Newsham North Signal Boxes. During the 70s and 80s, route changes have meant that its area is now much broader, covering the line from Benton Junction (where it interfaces with Tyneside IECC) to Bedlington South Signal Box. It includes several level crossings, the former Civil Engineer’s Sidings at Newsham and the former Isabella Branch at Newsham North Junction, which used to link with Isabella Colliery and Bates Colliery.
